THE RESEARCH TEAM

Jason R. Jurjevich, Project Director

Dr. Jason R. Jurjevich is an Assistant Professor in the School of Geography, Development & Environment at the University of Arizona.  Jurjevich’s research at Uarizona focuses on the socio-spatial implications of demographic change, with an emphasis on demographic storytelling to facilitate data-driven analysis and policy.

A broadly-trained human geographer, Jurjevich’s research interests address issues related to urban and population geography.  Since 2010, his work has been cited in numerous media outlets, including National Public Radio (NPR), Univision, CityLab, Governing Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Atlantic Cities, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Yoga Korgaonkar, Assistant Director

Dr. Yoga Korgaonkar has a background in Information Technology, Computer Programming, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Hydrology. In the Mapping Racists Covenants project, Dr. Korgaonkar's role is to use Python programming and optical character recognition to identify racists terminology in covenants. Additionally, Dr. Korgaonkar is assisting in the use of GIS to prepare the results of this project. Past projects include the use of GIS and spatial analysis to enable hydrological modeling of urban areas and the use of green stormwater infrastructure to mitigate flooding and enabling water augmentation in the urban environment.

Christine Kollen, Project Advisor

Christine Kollen is an Emerita Librarian at the University of Arizona Library. Her background at the UA Library included developing research data and GIS spatial data services; describing and providing access to spatial data; and providing access to digital collections.

A librarian with a broad range of experience, her research includes developing spatial data catalogs in Libraries, providing online access to historic Arizona, Mexican and Mexican American newspapers, and providing digital humanities services in Libraries. Before retiring, she researched racist covenants in Pima County before joining the Mapping Racist Covenants Project.

Liz Wilshin, Graduate Student Researcher

Liz Wilshin (she/her) is a graduate student researcher pursuing her Masters of Science in Geographic Information Systems Technology (MS-GIST) at the University of Arizona. With a focus on inclusive urban spaces, Liz's research projects have explored topics such as environmental stressors, infrastructure, and demographics.

Her contributions to the MRC project include collecting, cleaning, and indexing data from trusted sources. Liz managed record requests to the Pima County Recorder's office and participated in verification of those records. She developed a proof of concept web map and application for her Master's capstone project and the MRC research team.

Arden Holloway, Undergraduate Student Researcher

Arden (they/them) is an undergraduate student majoring in Urban & Regional Planning and Arabic with a minor in GIS at the University of Arizona. They have interests in urban sustainability, geospatial data analytics, and social and environmental justice. In the Mapping Racists Covenants project, Arden collects and verifies data on Tucson subdivisions and CCRs, organizes events and volunteers, and communicates with MRC community partners.
